Enjoy this private beach located at the opening of Mitchell Bay on the western side of San Juan Island. This home comfortably sleeps 6 people. It has two bedrooms, an extra sleeping room and two bathrooms. It is perfect for families, or a few couples wanting to relax and enjoy island life. This house has a strict 'no shoes inside' policy.

Upon entry to the home on the main level, you will find a queen-sized bedroom to your right. Across the hall will be a full bathroom. The home opens to the kitchen, dining, and living room space. The kitchen is very well equipped for preparing family meals. The dining table has a fantastic view out the large water-facing windows with ample seating for 6. Guests may also want to utilize the breakfast bar with seating for 5.

The living room offers two cozy couches facing the TV cabinet, which holds the satellite receiver as well as a DVD/VHS player and a selection of DVD's and VHS tapes. Unfortunately, the fireplace is not for guest use.

The upstairs of the home is equipped with a bedroom, an extra sleeping room and a 3/4 bathroom. The primary bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a large dressing-table and closet. The extra sleeping room is equipped with 2 sets of bunk beds and a queen bed, however, the maximum occupancy of this home still remains at 6 guests total.

Enjoy relaxing on the gorgeous deck while taking in the panoramic view of the bay and privately shared beach area. Guests can utilize the outdoor grill on beautiful San Juan summer evenings.

The house is ideally located and close to both Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor, approximately a 15 minute drive to either town. This area boasts many nearby hikes and parks including: English Camp, Young Hill, Bell Point, Roche Harbor Frisbee Golf Course, or the Westcott Bay Oyster Farm.

This home has a strict 'no shoes inside' policy.

The beach is shared on both sides with private homeowners and guests are required to abide by the property boundaries while on the beach. Guests have access to a private section of the beach for this house and are not to access the whole beachfront.

This rental home has a 2 week (14 day) maximum length of stay. Reservations that are 2 weeks long will have a mandatory scheduled mid-stay clean on the 7th day.

The neighbors/owners do have two friendly, golden retrievers that periodically like to come and say hello. However, this is not a pet-friendly property for guests.

This home is on a fiber-optic internet connection. The internet / wi-fi at this house should be sufficient for streaming video, phone calls, remote work and video conferencing.

  We stayed at the Open Bay Beach Home for a week in May. It was like a home away from home, with everything we needed. Lots of extra space and can easily accommodate 6 guests. There were only two of us, and for a couple of days 3 of us. Two levels made this very nice with just two, or more. very clean and everything was ready when we arrived, with easy instructions and check in. Beach is nice, gravel beach. Although there neighboring homes, we never saw anyone else. Easy access by short drives to Friday Harbor, and other parts of San Juan Island, including several very nice state parks. Suggest visiting the Lime Kiln state park, which also has a very nice whale watching overlook, with several picnic tables for lunch. Weather in May in Washington can be very rainy but our stay was very nice weather, only rained one day out of 8.

  really nice property, great location. We were lucky that neither neighboring properties were occupied as they are very large and each could have had 10 people. The aerial photo currently being used does not show the new property next door which is very close. Overall a very comfortable home! Used only the downstairs bedroom which was large and fine but it only had a small double bed, could have used a larger bed here. It was great to have a bath with a tub and another bath upstairs with a shower!! Maybe could have used luggage racks. Also could have used detailed instructions on how to work the television and a better lamp in the living room. Thank you for letting us use this amazing house!

  We spent a gorgeous week in a well appointed property. The view from the deck was beautiful and serene. We even had a daily visitor from a local deer. Beds were comfortable and house was immaculate.
  Location was in close proximity to Roche and Friday Harbor, the Lavendar farm, sheep farm, the Alpaca farm and many other must sees.
  Our whale Watch with Maya Legacy’s which we have used many times in the past did not disappoint. Although it was a chilly week we couldn’t have asked for a nicer vacation.

  My family of five could not have asked for a better location on San Juan Island. Open Bay Beach house is really well situated on the island - very close to Roche Harbor (5-10 minutes for groceries, meals, etc.), English Camp (Young Hill - great hike), and Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm. The house is very comfortable and relaxing - it has a great deck overlooking the bay, which we enjoyed for meals and playing cards in the evening. The private beach was amazing - our boys loved exploring the tidal pools and catching crabs. We saw otters, harbor seals and bald eagles. We also really enjoyed playing pickle ball. We never turned on the TV. Just a great place - the owners were very kind and we enjoyed visiting with them.
  
  We did some great hikes on San Juan Island, including American Camp and Mt. Finlayson. We also ferried to other islands to explore. One of our favorite excursions was a half-day / sunset sailing trip through All Aboard Sailing - highly recommend. We left out of Friday Harbor, sailed around various islands and saw all sorts of wildlife - unfortunately, we did not see any whales. Maybe next time.

  Our family stayed here for a week at the beginning of May. The location was great - felt private - and was still only 10 minutes from Roche harbor and maybe 2o from Friday Harbor. We brought our kayaks and it was so easy to walk them down to the private beach and explore the harbor. We had seals poking their heads up to say hi! The kids LOVED it. Although there are houses on either side we didn't see anyone at either place all week long. Just lots of deer. :) My son loved playing basketball on the court, and we explored tide pools at the houses private beach. It was a fantastic trip all around. We went out and played, explored, ate and hiked everyday and this was such a fantastic place to come back to. Highly recommend.

  The location is unequaled with has wonderful privacy. Great for a family that is looking to spend time together. We usually like to eat dinner out yet found ourselves opting to cook at home because we didn’t want to leave the compound. Hanging on the porch or dock overlooking the ocean was very special. House was very clean and beds were comfortable. The only negative possibly is that the couches in the indoor common area were a bit small for a larger family and the kitchen cookware and utensils were not of great quality for such a nice establishment. Granted we did cook at home more than we thought we would. Lovely house. Lovely location. We recommend it highly!!

  This home is in a very quiet and secluded area of the island's beautiful west side. Although there are neighbors we never saw or heard anyone the four days we were there. Access to the beach is fairly easy down the stairs. The private beach is a small area but certainly large enough to enjoy time down at the water. The view is gorgeous from the beach and from the balcony of the home. We spent time searching and finding lots of beautiful sea glass on the beach. We saw plenty of wildlife, to include deer feeding on the property.
  The house had all the necessary appliances and essential cooking utensils. The first evening we could not get the satellite TV to work because it required a passcode to access. We were not happy about that but the rest of the evenings it worked without a passcode (not sure what that is about?).
  We traveled all over the island and enjoyed our stay on San Juan. Would definitely recommend a visit on this wonderful Island. Everyone we encountered was very friendly.
  The only negative feedback I have regarding this rental is the 10:00 checkout and no fires in the fireplace. It gets cold there in the evenings (we are from Texas!) and a fire would have been great!. Other than those inconveniences we were very pleased with our stay.

  Our stay was fantastic. The home was wonderful, clean and well stocked with essential linens, towels and cooking equipment. The outdoor grill worked very well. The deck was the site of two dinners and multiple cups of coffee in the morning and beverages in the afternoon and evening. We were also very pleased to take advantage of fresh tomatoes and the last of the raspberries from the garden.

  Of all the places we've stayed and visited on San Juan Island, this is our favorite. The house is clean and comfortable and a perfect size for a family of four. The property has an open, park-like feel which allows for great views and plenty of room for children to stretch their legs. The location is about five miles from Snug and Roche Harbors along quiet country roads which is ideal for a casual bike ride. The basketball court is a nice touch. The beach and the bay are absolutely lovely. You can't go wrong with this rental!
